Police have stopped more than 100 Dhaka-bound buses on the highway on the west bank of Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj. Passengers of these buses are in trouble while returning to work after Eid holidays amid ongoing restrictions to prevent corona infection.

Police have stopped more than 100 Dhaka-bound buses on the highway on the west bank of Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj. Passengers of these buses are in trouble while returning to work after Eid holidays amid ongoing restrictions to prevent corona infection.

Despite the closure of long-distance buses due to the epidemic, many buses took passengers to various northern districts before Eid. Police said the buses from North Bengal to Dhaka were stopped. Police started intercepting buses at Kadda and Hatikumrul areas of Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj this morning. The buses were later diverted.

Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Officer in Charge. Mosaddek Hossain told The Daily Star that no passenger bus would be allowed to cross the Bangabandhu Bridge. Since morning, the police have stopped the passenger buses at various points.

He said the highway police was working on the connecting road to stop the movement of passenger buses at Bangabandhu Bridge.

Hatikumrul Highway Police Officer in Charge. Shahjahan told The Daily Star that more than 100 Dhaka-bound passenger buses have been stopped in Hatikumrul and Kadda areas of Bangabandhu Bridge Highway since morning. The operation has been intensified since noon.

Although the bus service was stopped, the movement of small and light vehicles was not stopped, so many people are trying to return to work in Dhaka and its surrounding districts by alternative means.

He was supposed to reach his workplace by Monday but could not return to Dhaka despite trying all day on Sunday.
